Feelings: Better Being 940 is a quaint, lovely little spot in Hell's Kitchen, serving an extensive menu with fresh ingredients and an assortment of fresh sandwiches, soups, salads, and baked goods are available. During the lunch hour, it does get quite busy with hungry customers with more downtown vibe. Perhaps they are also fans of Better Being Underground, the original Better Being spot in West Village.
It is a takeout friendly spot with a warm counter service, but if you chose to dine in, they can accommodate with a cozy communal table, counter seating or beautiful custom made tables.
The menu changes daily based on the availability at the market, and the food is excellent no matter what you order. "Seven Grain Avocado Toast with Side Salad" ($9.99) is excellent with fluffy, thickly cut bread, fresh avocado, all topped with a bit of chili peppers that tie the flavor all together. The side salad is crisp and fresh, and pickled ginger dressing is something I would want to drink up daily. But instead, I drank cooling watermelon mint lemonade.
Eric recommends, "The Slumdog Millionaire," their staple sandwich that consists of curried free range chicken, spinach, cilantro, mint, all on pressed garlic naan. Sounds amazing.
If you are looking for a cute lunch spot in the area, or need catering, this is a perfect place. Better Being 940 beautifully reinvents and recreates deli favorites. I can just see the midtown powder blue shirt bros saying, "Why would I walk and pay for more for my lunch?" But this is why those guys cannot be seen here, and that's a good thing.
