2013 Vendy Awards! 09-07-2013

Location: Industry City, 39th Street between 1st and 2nd avenues in Sunset Park, Brooklyn
Time: 1:30pm-7:30pm
People: RB, CK and myself among a lot of street food lovers!

Feelings: The Oscars of street food, the Ninth Annual Vendy Awards, returned with NYC's (and NJ!) best mobile vendor chefs to celebrate the street food culture. This sold out event was held at the Industry City, home of MakerBot, in Sunset Park. The whole area is absolutely not high heel or couture friendly, and the lovely Vendy people recommended to wear comfortable footwear for this event. I felt like Lydia on Breaking Bad, walking through the carnage to get to business.

The Vendy Cup went to El Olomega's meat stuffed pupusas from Red Hook Ballfields. As well as the awards given by a panel of culinary experts (including gorgeous and always chic Ms. Elettra Wiedemann), there was The People's Taste Awards, which was chosen by the attendees of the event. Luke's Lobster Roll, who had the longest waiting lines, took this honor. Congratulations!

Ramen and Friends favorites from the Vendy's:
  • My son hates food but he ate this!: Neapolitan Express, for their high quality ingredients. CK ate 4 slices. This kid never eats pizza.
  • The Biggest Portions: Cinnamon Snail, for their service and offering two vegan donuts+savory platters.
  • Best Flavors: Bon Chovie, for delicious fried anchovies and Khao Man Gai NY for bold Thai flavors.
  • Best Dessert: Itizy, for their creamy and decadent chocolate ice cream.
  • No! You Ran out of Fries: Souvlaki King of Astoria, for running out of fries, but RB enjoyed the lamb.
  • So Meaty: Home by the Range, for local-organic beef sandwich.
  • Most Refreshing: Del's NYC, for the perfect consistency of frozen lemonade. I wish the life was this perfect.
  • Best Coffee: Molly's Milk Truck, for tasty iced coffee with almond milk.
Congratulations to all! See you next year.

At some point I would like to go to the Vendy's but that ticket is pricey! Seems like it may be worth it.

I've heard many good things about the Cinnamon Snail Truck. I have to try them out.

Really, YOUR son doesn't like food?!?
