Time: 1pm
Feelings: After a year long, $40 millon renovation, the newly revamped Paramount hotel is helping Times Square look less like a dreadful Disneyland. Their Italian style coffee bar, Corso is also very chic and reasonably priced considering it is in the center of Times Square. While I saw plenty of tourists in there, they were more of European jet setter types, creating this little sleek coffee bar the opposite of tourist trap.
The service is quick and attentive sans any lazy demeanor or attitude. The "Select" salad ($9, arugula, roasted peppers and ricotta salata) with the signature house dressing is very creamy and filling. The salad does not come with bread, unfortunately, but the salad is fresh and luscious enough for a satisfactory lunch. Assorted meats and cheeses, Italian sandwiches and foccacias as well as bombolini and other sweet delights are also available if you are still hungry.
They also carry various Harney and Sons tea and strong Italian coffee ($2.05). Downtown types who get stuck in Midtown during the day would appreciate their European sensibility and quick caffeine fix..and how cute is their hotel gift shop next door!
