Schmackary's 07-17-2012

Location: 362 W. 45th St.
Time: 3pm
People: Sash, AP and myself

Feelings: This past May was the opening of the originally online only cookie bakery known as Scmackary's, founded by Mr. Zachary Schmahl in Hell's Kitchen. This cute bakery's offering is nothing but innovative, indulging us with an excellent, eclectic collection of cookies that includes maple bacon, red velvet, peanut butter cup as well as cookie bars, brownies, candied bacon milkshake, plus the house specialty, "Schmack Snack" ($3), which is a cookie baked in a muffin tin.

There are many sizes (schmalls, old fashioned, and schmack snack) and flavors to choose from, so there is no excuse for not trying this place. In this heat wave, the ice cream sandwich ($4 for schmalls, $6.25 for old fashioned) would be ideal, but I tried "Cookies and Cream" in schmall instead. This small cookie comes with oreo pieces and vanilla buttercream frosting. As Sash bit into her maple bacon cookie, we agreed that the texture of the cookie is the winner at Schmackary's. The edges of the cookie is ever so crunchy, yet as you bite towards the center, it gets soft and gooey. What a perfect combination! We are often forced to choose either crunchy or gooey cookies, but with Schmackary's heavenly gifts, we no longer have to.

I don't have much of sweet tooth, and I prefer desserts that have more subtle, light flavor, but Schmackary's brings quintessential good ol' American cookies to Midtown in an evolved, modern form. Move over, cupcakes. Decadent and dense Schmackary's is in town and here to stay.

I've been meaning to try this place, but the name just turns me off. Do they have plain old chocolate chip cookies? I'm a purist :) If they do, I'll have to check them out...

The name and logo design turned me off as well. The vibe is definitely Midtown. And yes, they did have regular chocolate chip cookies.

I'm kind of tired of all these new sweet shops popping up around the city. I guess I'm still an old soul at heart and prefer to patronize simple bakeries. Btw, Fultummy is closed. :(

So sad to see Fultummy go. I feel like they wouldve done much better in E. Village.

Holy shizz! I must go here! I must tell my mother to go here! The cookies look delightful. I have to say I've become such a snob that even Crumbs, ole reliable, is darn lackluster these day. They also are suffering from dry whoopie pie syndrome.

I go to Crumbs everyday for 99cent iced coffee!! But cupcakes--? NO THANK YOU!
