Ghang Thai 07-08-2010
Location: 204 Smith St. BK
Time: 7pm
People: RB and myself
Feelings: Ever since CK's arrival, we have been relying on our reliable neighborhood takeouts such as Hibino, Calexico and Waterfalls for dinner. Who am I kidding? In fact, since we don't usually cook, that part has not changed much. We've always relied on neighborhood takeouts! So many psychotic baby sites would tell you,"Cook all your food and freeze before you deliver your baby since takeouts could be limited. You won't have any time to get food for yourself!" Whoever wrote that must not know this wonderful culinary world of unlimited take out availability that is New York City.
It seems my taste buds seem to have changed forever, still craving citrus fruits, rich in water and vitamins. But today, I was finally ready to put some Thai food back into my life. So far, all the Thai restaurants in BoCoCa have been a series of disappointments, and we did not expect too much from Ghang Thai either. But it turned out to be quite a satisfactory experience.
We shared Steamed Veggie Dumplings ($4), which were cooked well and tasty, and I especially liked the surprising corn appearance inside the dumplings. Most takeout dumplings tend to get too soggy, but since their delivery was fast, we were able to enjoy these little delectables as if we were dining at the restaurant.
I ordered my usual Thai favorite, Pad See Ew with Tofu ($8), and RB had Chicken Drunken Noodles ($8). Both of our noodles were cooked well without too much grease. The tofu was especially tasty, and the chicken was moist with good amount of heat. It is of course not comparable to some of authentic Thai joints in Queens, but for BoCoca, this is as good as it can get.
