Whoopie Pie from Tribeca Treats 05-22-2010
Location: 94 Reade St.
Time: 4pm
People: RB and myself
Feelings: I could never quite explain my obsession with Whoopie Pies. RB says, "A good Whoopie Pie is still just an average dessert. It always tastes so stale to me," but what can I say? I just enjoy the fluffy round mound shaped bitter chocolate buns and creamy fillings. For a person who does not really care for overly sweet dessert, a Whoopie Pie is just about right. I'm trying to get RB to take me to the Pennsylvania Amish country just to try their authentic pies.
In the past, I have enjoyed Street Sweets' Whoopie Pies, but when JBH mentioned that Tribeca Treats is now carrying them, I found myself at this cute assortment shop of bakery and gift shop in Tribeca on a warm Saturday afternoon. They had a beautiful alley of cupcakes, chocolates, ice cream sandwiches, cookies, and the ultimate prize, Whoopie Pies, casually sitting next to the register.
The chocolate buns were perfectly fluffy and subtly bitter-sweet, but the filling was unfortunately made of butter cream. I am not a fan of butter cream, but it was still creamy and enjoyable. The portion was just right and sensible for my strange Whoopie obsession.
My expedition for the best Whoopie Pie continues. Believe it or not, my favorite was the vegan version I tried at Foodswings in Williamsburg.

Glad you got to try their whoopie pie! I agree that the filling was not like the classic and still hail One Girl Cookies pumpkin (they also have chocolate) whoopie pie as the best I've tasted recently. Though, I'm not a connoisseur on whoopie pies.
Tribeca Treats brownie rules as one of my faves though.
thanks Jenn! if you see any other whoopies, let me know!
