Street Sweets 09-24-2009

Location: 50th St. between 6th and 7th Ave
Time: 10am
People: AP and myself

Feelings: Sa-Sha told me that the Street Sweets truck is parked near our work, so without delay I ran out to get some coffee and pastry. The lady and the gentleman of the truck were extremely courteous and friendly. Some carts tend to be overbearing, but this one left quite a nice impression. It was refreshing to receive friendly yet professional service in the city early in the morning. And from a food truck of all places!

What drew me immediately was the design of the truck. How adorable is this? I cannot emphasize enough what a delightful experience this cute little truck brought to my morning.

I wanted to try all the baked goods, but I chose orange custard brioche ($3.50) and small coffee ($1.95), which is way above my daily breakfast budget. I thought all the baked goods were quite pricey for a truck, but after having a bite of the brioche, I understood why it wasn't cheap. It was fresh and still warm and felt right out of the oven. The brioche was buttery and fluffy, and the custard filling has incredibly smooth texture. I am rather thankful that this brioche is a bit pricey. Otherwise, I would eat it everyday, and that may be unhealthy for my wallet and my waistline.

The fair trade coffee they serve was also delicious. According to their website, they use bio diesel fuel to reduce emissions. Cute, delicious, friendly, and green! It is understandable that you get what you pay for at this truck.
